Toy Story 4 First Trailer: Forky, Director Josh Cooley, and a Reddit Theory

Eight years after what seemed like the final chapter of the Disney and Pixar franchise, Toy Story returns with a fourth and seemingly final installment. The trailer below introduces a new member of the family who will be central to the plot. We also have comments from its director and a Reddit user's theory that might leave us a little sad.

Toy Story 4 Already Has Its First Trailer!

The Trailer

Disney Pixar revealed this synopsis with the trailer: "Woody has always been confident about his place in the world and his priority of taking care of his child, whether it's Andy or Bonnie. But when Bonnie adds a rebellious new toy named 'Forky' to her room, a road trip adventure with old and new friends will show Woody how big the world can be for a toy." This information was revealed by Disney Pixar at the trailer's launch, giving us to understand that this fork, which insists it's not a toy, will be vital to the resolution of this new plot.

Director's Comments

Director Josh Cooley expressed his feelings about the new sequel: "Like many people, I assumed Toy Story 3 was the end of the story. And it was the end of the story of Woody with Andy. But, as in life, every ending is a new beginning." About the new character he said: "Forky is a toy that Bonnie made from a disposable fork, so he's facing a crisis. He wants to fulfill his purpose as a fork, but he's been given a new purpose as a toy."

A Fan Theory

For more confusion, and to play with what will happen in this new installment, here's a theory developed by Reddit user Korliyon: "The toys will have to face a villain who has great power, because he knows the biggest secret: that Woody and the rest of his companions are alive. Humans eventually find out about this reality and decide to take toys away from their children. So Buzz Lightyear and his friends decide to make a drastic decision to solve all this chaos, sacrifice themselves, eliminating the spell that keeps them alive, so that children can continue to be happy in their childhood with their favorite toys."
