We all do things unconsciously, like moving around 30 times per hour while asleep. But there are also tasks we do consciously and can control, such as increasing your productivity at the computer. That's why we bring you TrackYourTime, a tracker that helps you control workflow and time usage while you work on your machine.
TrackYourTime is built on the Qt framework, a smart choice that doesn't require a user interface to run. Once you've downloaded and installed the program, you won't see any GUI or shortcut. The app starts running silently from installation, and you access it via its icon in the system tray.
Right-clicking the tray icon brings up the menu, where you can access all the platform's features. Through the Profiles option, you can create and edit profiles. Each user can define categories for different activities on the computer. For example, you'd activate the “Work” category only when you're actually working at the screen—just a simple click toggles it.
In the Statistics tab, you can see how much time you've spent in each application (shown as percentages). This data can be exported to CSV format.
In the Settings tab, you can select the language, set time limits for each program, and manage platform notifications.
In the Schedule section, you can determine when tracking starts for each category, so the program monitors your productivity at the computer. There you can create and delete records.
In our tests, TrackYourTime satisfactorily measured the time we spent in different programs. However, the environment is in beta and we noticed it in the alerts—they're really annoying. Also noteworthy is that the tool does not affect computer performance.
TrackYourTime is a portable program available for free for Windows, Mac OS X, and Linux.
