During E3 2017, Nintendo held a non-attended conference, but it had great announcements, at least barely mentioned with cards that leave us wanting more, like the new Metroid Prime 4 and the remake of Metroid: Samus Returns.
Metroid Prime 4
During E3 2017, Nintendo officially revealed Metroid Prime 4, the latest entry in the beloved exploration and science fiction series. Unfortunately, beyond the name and the fact that it will come to Nintendo Switch, we know nothing about the game itself. The new game will mark the first entry in the Prime series in a decade, as the original trilogy concluded with Metroid Prime 3: Corruption for Wii in 2007. The Prime subseries debuted on GameCube in 2002, and was especially notable for successfully translating the iconic exploration of the original Metroid games to a first-person 3D experience. Metroid Prime 4 is being developed by Nintendo and will be available exclusively on Nintendo Switch. The game does not have a specific release date, but it is expected to arrive in 2018.
Metroid: Samus Returns
And while Nintendo surprised fans with Metroid Prime 4 during its E3 2017 press conference, it turns out that wasn't the only Metroid announcement for the show. During its Treehouse live stream after the conference, Metroid: Samus Returns was announced for Nintendo 3DS. As the name suggests, it is based on the classic game Metroid II: Return of Samus. Instead of being a direct adaptation, this installment is described as a reimagining of that title, though it remains a 2D side-scrolling action and exploration game. In addition to visual improvements, Samus also has a new range of movements, such as aiming and shooting in any direction.
Metroid: Samus Returns is being developed by MercurySteam (Castlevania: Lords of Shadow – Mirror of Fate) and will be available exclusively for Nintendo 3DS starting on September 15, 2017. A special edition will also be available that includes both the game itself and a CD with the soundtrack.
