Transwiz: How to Copy User Profiles to Another Computer

One of the most frustrating aspects of installing Windows from scratch is restoring some degree of customization in user profiles, and I'm not just talking about details like wallpapers and icons. I mean files, documents, portable programs saved on the desktop, even music. There are many migration tools on the web, but the free edition of Transwiz lets us reduce the entire process to a couple of clicks.

You might have decided that your current Windows installation needs to be wiped clean, or better yet, you've bought a new computer and are ready to enjoy new hardware. The point is you'll need to transfer some personal files. If they are relatively few, it's enough to make copies on a USB drive or in the cloud and then restore them, but what happens when the plan is to back up entire profiles?

If we skip any official migration solution and the possibility of installing one operating system over another to preserve previous data, the ideal is to download an alternative tool like Transwiz. Its only job is to copy user profiles to other computers or Windows environments, and it's so easy to use that it doesn't even require a formal installation. Once you double-click the .msi file, the executable will appear next to it, in the same folder.

How to Copy Profiles with Transwiz

The user's involvement is reduced to following the wizard. First, we select whether we want to move data to another computer, or if we already have a package to restore. The second step is to choose the profile that will be processed by Transwiz. Then we define the path to store the result, and if you prefer to speed up the process, you can disable compression.

The program recommends protecting the profile with a password (although it's optional), and finally, you have to wait. Personally, I recommend running Transwiz with elevated permissions, because otherwise it's likely that some system files won't be integrated correctly (if the errors are minimal, we can ignore them).

Restoring Profiles on a New Computer

The Transwiz user guide is in English, but it's very easy to follow. When importing profiles, the program can create a new one (with all credentials and login functions), or try to merge profiles if another with the same characteristics already exists. Access to advanced parameters is only available in the professional version of Transwiz, but don't worry. The freeware edition is an excellent starting point for anyone who wants to copy user profiles to another computer, quickly and safely.
