Valve says it has ended production of the Valve Index, while existing headsets remain supported on Steam and SteamVR. The company says remaining headsets, controllers, and accessories are available while supplies last. Valve’s Index page carries those terms; MIXED reported that Valve posted the notice on October 13, 2026, and reported the U.S. prices below in its October 14 coverage.
What the production halt means for owners
Valve says existing Index hardware remains supported on Steam and SteamVR. For a hardware problem, Valve’s Steam Support wizard offers device-specific troubleshooting for the headset, controllers, base stations and Lighthouse tracking, as well as a route to open a support ticket. The wizard also links to iFixit parts and repair guides.
A complete Index setup requires separate components
Valve says the items on its listing are sold separately and do not make up a complete kit. Using an Index requires a headset, controllers and base stations, so a discounted individual component is not a complete setup.
MIXED reported that the remaining listed items were discounted by 20%. Its October 14 report gave these U.S. prices:
| Index item | Reported reduced U.S. price | Previously reported U.S. price |
| Valve Index Headset | $399.20 | $499 |
| Valve Index Controllers | $223.20 | $279 |
| One base station | $119.20 | $149 |
| Valve Index VR Kit | $799.20 | $999 |
| Index Replacement Tether | $103.20 | $129 |
