On October 9, 2026, Valve announced new Steam Frame reservation timing and released computer-aided design (CAD) and electrical-interface files. Logged-in reservation holders can check whether their purchase email is expected by December or in 2027. The estimate concerns the email, not the headset’s arrival. Valve’s announcement explains the timing and queue rules.
Valve opened reservation signups on September 14, randomized the signup order on September 17, and began fulfilling orders on September 18. The reservation update is separate from earlier coverage of Steam Frame software.
What the Steam Frame reservation window means
The window is an estimate for when a reservation holder should receive a purchase email. Valve says holders assigned to 2027 will receive more detailed expected-order timing by January. Check the Steam Frame product page while logged in to see the estimate attached to your reservation.
Regional queues and the 72-hour deadline
Valve manages a separate reservation queue for each region. New waitlist signups join at the end in signup order, and Valve says it turns to a region’s waitlist only after that region’s reservation queue is exhausted. A waitlisted customer therefore does not move ahead of someone who already has a reservation in that queue.
After a purchase email arrives, the buyer has 72 hours to complete checkout. If the deadline passes, Valve moves to the next person in line.
What Valve’s CAD files can be used for
Valve makes Steam Frame CAD and electrical-interface information available for non-commercial use. Commercial users are directed to contact Valve using the repository instructions. The files add a separate part to the update: alongside reservation guidance, Valve has made technical design information available under those stated terms.
