A Soviet war drama that, to my surprise, was recommended to me by the YouTube algorithm. It wasn't a film I knew and it left me speechless. It's in the vein of films like "Mandariinid" (2013) and "Quo Vadis, Aida?" (2020), already recommended here. The year is 1943, Belarus the place. A boy finds an old rifle and joins the Soviet resistance against the devastating German forces. Far from Hollywood's romanticized vision, "Idi i smotri" (better known as "Come and See") makes us witnesses to the worst of humanity, in the worst thing it can do: war. It's not a movie to watch with your emotional defenses down, you've been warned.
