The robotic lions of Voltron are preparing to return to save the galaxy in a new animated series. Produced by DreamWorks Animation, Voltron: Legendary Defender marks the return of Voltron directly to Netflix.
First aired in 1984, Voltron: Defender of the Universe was an animated series originally produced by World Events Productions and Toei Animation. Like other futuristic series of that time, such as Robotech and Transformers, it followed a group of astronauts piloting a giant super robot known as Voltron. It had two seasons: the first, Voltron Lions, in which the robotic lions had to defend the planet Arus from King Zarkon and his troops from Planet Doom; and the second, Voltron Vehicles, in which the heroes had to defend the galaxy from Emperor Zeppo and the Drule Empire.

If you were a faithful follower of this series, we have good news: Netflix and DreamWorks Animation announced the premiere of Voltron: Legendary Defender for this year. In this new series, five teenage heroes and their flying lions unite to form the powerful Voltron, who returns after ten thousand years to save the galaxy.
Voltron: Legendary Defender will have some modern adjustments, including a more serialized narrative, where the protagonists will have backstories with a real purpose for being on this mission and for getting involved with Voltron. The series will feature the voices of Steven Yeun (The Walking Dead), Jeremy Shada (Adventure Time), Tyler Labine (Tucker & Dale vs Evil), Bex Taylor-Klaus (Scream), and Josh Keaton (known for voicing Spider-Man in animated series and video games). Produced by DreamWorks Animation, the first season will consist of thirteen episodes and will premiere on Netflix on June 10, 2016.
