VSMC opens its first wafer-fabrication plant in Singapore on September 28, 2026, in Tampines. The facility is operated by VisionPower Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (VSMC), a joint venture between Vanguard International Semiconductor Corporation (VIS) and NXP Semiconductors. Its new capacity is reportedly sold out, while VIS is reportedly considering another Singapore facility.
VSMC opens its Singapore chip factory in Tampines
The opening marks VSMC’s first wafer fab in Singapore. A fab, short for fabrication plant, manufactures chips on silicon wafers. The new facility is designed for 300mm wafers and specialty processes ranging from 40–130nm.
Specialty chips, planned output and production timing
The planned product mix includes mixed-signal chips, power-management products and interposers. Those are specialty applications, distinct from the leading-edge logic chips commonly associated with AI accelerators. VSMC’s stated target markets include high-performance computing, mobile, automotive, industrial and consumer products.
VSMC plans to begin volume production in Q1 2027. The plant is expected to reach full capacity in 2029, with planned output of 44,000 wafers per month. The project is also expected to create 1,600 jobs. Singapore’s Minister for Trade and Industry Dr. Tan See Leng said 75% of those roles would be professional, managerial, executive and technician positions.
VIS reportedly considers another Singapore facility
The first plant’s new capacity is reportedly sold out. VIS is reportedly considering a second facility in Singapore, a possibility following the opening of VSMC’s Tampines fab.
