Moving through streets and interiors with a vehicle can sometimes be a nightmare. And for those cases, nothing better than the new WalkCar, a personal electric transporter so small that you can carry it in a laptop bag.
The WalkCar is a personal electric transporter so small that you can carry it in a laptop bag. Created by Kuniaki Saito together with a team of engineers from the company Cocoa Motors, this four-wheeled vehicle is designed to, pardon the redundancy, carry passengers as it weighs between 2 and 3 kg (depending on the model) and is capable of supporting up to 120 kg. Unlike the Segway, the WalkCar does not include a steering wheel; in fact, the device is maneuvered by the driver shifting weight from side to side, as if it were a skateboard. If you want to brake, you only have to step off the board and the motor stops. Its creators claim that this transport is easier to mount and steer because it is firmly planted on four wheels instead of two.
As you can see, the WalkCar offers an extremely compact and simple design that can reach a maximum speed of 10 kilometers per hour, covering distances of up to 12 kilometers. Made of aluminum, this vehicle has two versions: a light one for moving indoors, and a more robust one ideal for streets. It also has a lithium-ion battery that requires three hours for a full charge.
For now, the WalkCar is only a prototype (fully functional, as you can see). It is expected that starting in October of this year, its creators will launch a Kickstarter campaign to finalize the design and begin mass production. If all goes well, the WalkCar could sell for approximately $800 when available next year. A bit more expensive than a bicycle, but much easier to store and transport.
