The Explorers (1985) is a total cult kids' movie. Not as well known as others from that era, but it has a legion of fans. It's in the same vein as "Flight of the Navigator" (1986), which is more recognized and ideal for a good double feature to watch with kids or nephews. It's about a group of friends who one day find a flying sphere of extraterrestrial origin and build a spaceship out of trash using it as an engine. It's fantastic. I watched it again last night and liked it as much as the first time. Recommended.
