On October 18, 2026, Social Media Today reported that YouTube was testing Ask YouTube AI answers at the top of regular search results for selected signed-in desktop users in the United States searching in English.
When an answer may appear
According to YouTube’s explanation quoted by Social Media Today, an answer may appear when a structured overview can add context beyond a standard list of videos. Open-ended, how-to, and skill-based questions without one right answer are examples, so an AI response is not part of every search.
Select “Show more” to open the full response and ask follow-up questions. Scrolling down returns to standard video results.
How the search test differs from broader Ask YouTube access
Remio separately reported broader Ask YouTube access on mobile and other screens. That broader access concerns Ask YouTube generally; YouTube’s description of the search-results experiment specified selected desktop users.
