On a pleasant drive along a nice road, you've probably encountered hundreds of wind turbines and a passenger in the car has asked questions about them: What are those giant fans for? How do those turbines generate energy? So that you don't stay without an answer, NeoTeo presents a powerful online wind turbine simulator. On the website, you will understand how wind turbines work and how they produce electricity.

The CK-12 Wind Turbine Simulation

CK-12 is a websiteCK-12 is a website with several physics simulations, and one of them is the wind turbine simulation. This simulation is presented through a short animated video. Once the video finishes, you can go to the wind turbine simulation module and adjust the blade diameter, set the conversion efficiency, and the wind speed. Then you'll have access to information about input power and output power generated by the parameters you have set.

The first thing you need to do is register on the website, then watch the video that will delve into how wind turbines work; at the end of the video, you'll have access to the simulation module.

Very easy to use

Once in the simulation module, you'll see several panels. They allow you to configure the parameters for a wind energy input and output simulation. The slider on the left side of the interface lets you change the size of the blade (100 meters to 150 meters). The other two controls on the right side of the platform's interface let you set the conversion efficiency (5% to 30%) and wind speed (0 m/s to 30 m/s).

Very explanatory video

The simulation runs in real time and you can watch everything on the two top graphs. The graph on the left displays the wind speed against wind energy. Meanwhile, the graph on the right shows the power generated through a comparison: white represents the incoming wind power and blue represents the outgoing electrical power.

As you can see, the platform offers very simple tools to understand how a wind turbine works through simulation, and although the website doesn't have advanced services, it's a first step into the world of non-polluting energies.
