While Redmond seems content with offering an inferior experience, users are focused on modifying and optimizing Windows 11. The ExplorerPatcher module removes many problems at the root, but there are also other minor tweaks that definitely deserve our attention. The Windhawk app works as a kind of 'store' for those tweaks, which we can install with just one click.
And in another episode of "Windows 11 is over a year old and hasn't changed a thing", Redmond's lack of action is concerning. As if that weren't enough, one of the most recent videos from PCWorld's YouTube channel confirms that performance differences between Windows 10 and Windows 11 are insignificant, especially on newer Intel processors.
In other words, the reasons to make the leap from Windows 10 to Windows 11 are very weak, but there are millions of users out there who must work with this operating system daily and need to improve their experience. The Windhawk app offers a dedicated environment for that task, with small tweaks and mods that alter the operating system's behavior.
How to optimize and modify Windows 11 with Windhawk
Windhawk is in beta, and for the moment it has a total of 18 modifications. Its main section shows both installed mods and the Featured category, and the rest are in the Explore section. The most popular mod is responsible for disabling the grouping of icons in the taskbar, a feature that Windows 11 users have been begging for. We can also customize the clock in the system tray, enlarge or reduce taskbar icons, show all apps when opening the start menu (thus avoiding pinned icons and recommendations), and a personal favorite, moving the mouse wheel over the taskbar to change the volume.
Now, I must admit that not all modifications work correctly. One of them applies dark mode to Notepad, but that change disappears once we restart the computer. Finally, experts in C and C++ can create their own mods compatible with Windhawk. The app is free and has a portable mode, but in this case I recommend using its traditional installer.
