The latest available data suggests that there will be no Windows 12 this year, and users will instead receive the 24H2 update for Windows 11, with artificial intelligence coded into its DNA. Obviously, Microsoft always reserves the right to change its mind (it has happened before), but Redmond’s true desert lies in the mobile space. Lacking news, design enthusiasts share their concepts online, and so we return to the channel of AR 4789, who has published his vision of a hypothetical Windows 12 for smartphones and tablets…
Without sugar or sweetener: Microsoft’s mobile strategy has been (and still is) an absolute failure. The latest novelty (if we can call it that) was the Duo series of smartphones under the Surface family, and judging by online reviews, Redmond’s offering and users’ desires are separated by an abyss.
So, can Redmond afford to ignore the mobile space? Its market capitalization of three trillion dollars (and the title of the “most valuable company in history” that comes with it) suggests yes, but some users still expect a spark, a revolutionary design. That brings us to the channel of AR 4789, who after sharing his concept Windows 12 ‘The Revolutionary’, now returns with Windows 12 Mobile.
Windows 12 Mobile: Microsoft’s Mobile Vision in Another Dimension
In general terms, this concept does not stray too far from what already exists in stock versions of Android, but all the elements we can expect from Microsoft are definitely there. OneDrive, Copilot, the Store, and Microsoft Edge appear in the bottom bar, and AR 4789 even ventures into a start menu. Today’s mobile devices have enormous screens, and the start menu likely makes more sense in those cases.
If there’s one thing I don’t approve of in this concept, it’s the excess of widgets on the screen. I guess the “sins” of Windows 11 will arrive one way or another in Windows 12 (when it becomes a real operating system), but on a mobile device they could cause performance issues. On the other side, the dark mode looks great and should be the default in such an environment.
