Windows XP turns 18 on October 25, and it’s still in use under very special conditions. The last variant of Windows XP lost its official support this year, but after all this time, it’s impossible not to wonder: how would XP be if Microsoft launched it today? The answer comes through the Avdan channel, which recently shared a concept for Windows XP 2019 Edition. Classic menu, unforgettable palettes, new icons, dynamic desktops… do you think it could work?

No few people see nostalgia as something bad. “You can’t let go!”, “That’s in the past!”, “Let it go!” But in the computer world, some things are definitely left behind. No one desperately looks for copies of Vista or Windows ME. USB drives have completely replaced (and I would even say canceled) floppy disks and optical discs, except in cases of “legacy” hardware. And at the same time, we have new generations of users with new visions. A couple of weeks ago, a young Japanese man asked why the icon for saving sheets in Excel looks like a beverage vending machine, and the Web melted.

That said, there are elements that resist and remain in our memory. One of them is Windows XP. With all its flaws and security issues, XP was, is, and will be one of Microsoft’s best operating systems. For many people out there, XP became their “first Windows”, and when someone at the level of Avdan on YouTube launches a new concept called Windows XP 2019 Edition, it inevitably draws attention.

If the work looks familiar, it’s because it’s the same Avdan who published Windows XP 2018 Edition a year ago. This time, the classic start menu is still there, as is the most famous desktop wallpaper on the planet. The 60 FPS animations look good in the video, but something tells me they would need to be much faster in a real environment.

The icons are a positive change, based on transparent backgrounds. The blue, olive, and silver themes set the pace, but he also included two very interesting dark modes. And regarding the dynamic desktop, let’s say something like that already exists in Windows 10 with rotating backgrounds.

Personally, I would have no problem adopting an operating system with the look of the Windows XP 2019 Edition concept. Still, opinions are more divided on the web. Some keep good memories of the environment, and others accuse it of having been designed by preschoolers. What do you think?
