It's not the first time we talk about AI-generated art, and it definitely won't be the last. However, we must recognize that users' interaction with this technology is becoming easier, leading to truly impressive developments. One of the best examples on the Web is Wombo.art: it only asks for a phrase, an idea, or a character... and its results are spectacular.
We know they create nudes, they design in 3D, they write rap songs and movie scripts. Of course, everything depends on how good/bad/stable/crazy their training is, but that is one of the most attractive aspects of artificial intelligences: With a handful of data they can generate beautiful, fabulous, extravagant, horrible things, and all at the same time.
This brings us to Wombo Dream, a side project by the Wombo team, whom we remember for their deepfakes app. Wombo Dream has mobile versions for iOS and Android, but what brings us here today is its online edition, Wombo.art. It's one of the best AI art generators we've seen in action, and the best part is that you only need to share a phrase or an idea to get started, without installing software or using personal photos.
Creating dreams and nightmares with Wombo.art
On the official page, we don't find many technical details about Wombo.art, but it's most likely that it uses the VQGAN+CLIP architecture or some similar variant. Wombo.art accepts any text string up to a maximum of 100 characters... and the rest depends on you. From whole sentences to horror movie characters, its potential is gigantic.
Once the phrase is defined, Wombo.art allows us to adopt an artistic style from nine available, or disable it completely. There's much to experiment with here, with a more relaxed pastel tone, the twisted iron of Steampunk, or the colorful chaos of Synthwave. The image generation takes a few seconds, and in the final section we have three options: Add a title, incorporate the original phrase into the art, and download a copy in high definition (1920 x 1080 in Trading Card format).
I must admit: I've been stuck on Wombo.art for over half an hour, and I can't stop generating images. Fortunately, the site seems to be resisting the user assault, and we haven't noticed any glitches or gross errors. It doesn't matter if you decide to enter out of simple curiosity or if you're looking for a new source of inspiration, I think you'll like Wombo.art.
