Firaxis Games has announced it is working on the sequel to XCOM: Enemy Unknown, the popular turn-based strategy science fiction series from 2K Games. XCOM 2 puts you in command of a small resistance to regain control of Earth and free humanity from alien domination.
The new title in the XCOM series has finally been announced. The successful XCOM: Enemy Unknown and the decent The Bureau: XCOM Declassified set the stage. The game will be a direct sequel to XCOM: Enemy Unknown, once again developed by Firaxis Games. According to creative director Jake Solomon, it will implement many features that fans have been requesting, along with visual and technical improvements, to push the limits of replayability in a strategy game. The new installment is called XCOM 2, and you can see its first trailer below.
Twenty Years Later
XCOM 2 takes place twenty years after the events of XCOM: Enemy Unknown, where humanity lost the war against the alien threat that has established itself on Earth. The secret paramilitary organization known as XCOM has been forgotten, but it won't be long before it returns to action to regain control of Earth and free humanity from alien domination. Of course, you begin by playing as a small resistance, at a disadvantage in both units and technology against the conquerors.
Release and Platforms
Interestingly, this sequel has not yet been announced for consoles of the new (and old) generation. Remember that XCOM: Enemy Unknown had simultaneous console and PC adaptations, as well as a mobile version. XCOM 2 is being developed by Firaxis Games and will be available on Windows, Mac, and Linux. The game doesn't have a concrete release date, but it is expected to arrive in November 2015. 2K Games announced that more details will be offered during E3 2015, so we'll have to wait to see what they have in store.
