A curious way to find out what had happened back then... but often, that front page didn’t show good things. Today, the same task falls to the Internet, and the databases that newspapers themselves maintain. The rest is a matter of heading to Wikipedia, entering your birth date, and seeing what the encyclopedia has recorded.

Now, all of this carries an underlying message: we’re getting old. Examples? Well... my brain insists that the ’90s happened recently, but 30 years have already passed. The portal appeared on the Web in early June 2014, and it’s the creation of Jolyon and Katya, a couple living in London. When they became parents for the first time, the experience made them “rewind”, think about everything that had happened to them up to that point, and put it in perspective. In its first week alone, the site recorded nearly 1.5 million visits, and it hasn’t stopped since.

What the Site Calculates

Basically, the data begins with an age comparison using two younger famous people as a reference. Zodiac sign, number of candles on the cake, heartbeats, breaths, lunar orbits, and the number of people on Earth at the time of your birth form the secondary details. Then we find a historical event that is closer to your birth than you yourself (I got the sinking of the Bismarck... yes, I’m old), kilometers traveled with galactic references, and the most important part of your past as an infant, child, teen, and beyond.

Is It Worth Trying?

The average age of visitors to the site is 35, and in the last section, it calculates how many people born on the same day as you are still alive. Do you feel depressed by the results? I admit it happened to me at first, but it’s definitely worth trying... and it’s much better than a newspaper front page.
