December is burning its last cartridges, and as expected, YouTube presented the new edition of the classic summary Rewind. The most important YouTubers of the year, the most popular songs, celebrities, standout channels, and many more appear in this short that stays just short of seven minutes. How many can you recognize without looking at the list...?

YouTube Rewind: Now Watch Me 2015
YouTube Rewind 2015

YouTube's official statistics are quite outdated, but no one dares deny that we are facing a titan with a global audience. On the other hand... the Web is changing, and YouTube needs to stay competitive. The impressive advance of services like Netflix led to the creation of YouTube Red, and with the associated access to more than 30 million songs on Google Music, it also represents a direct blow to Spotify. In other words, the future of YouTube involves attracting, capturing, and retaining users, while also seeking to monetize its traffic. On its side, YouTube has a true battalion of stars, talented and creative however you look at them. In recognition, many of them appear in the 2015 edition of YouTube Rewind.

Now... don't blame me when I say that I don't recognize the vast majority of the people in the video. Their channels accumulate millions and millions of users, but it's evident that the YouTube universe is much bigger than it appears. At first glance I recognized PewDiePie, HolaSoyGerman, John Oliver, el Rubius, and the Slo Mo Guys, although the list is gigantic and is available in the description. At the same time we discover references to Mad Max: Fury Road (probably the best film of the year), the formidable short Kung Fury, and Shia LaBeouf's motivational video transformed into a meme for all eternity... which on the Web means a couple of months (until someone digs it up again).

Comments indicate that YouTube Rewind 2015 lost a bit of quality compared to the 2014 edition. Maybe it's due to the selection of some songs, or the detail that we keep seeing the same faces in the front page year after year. Of course, that depends exclusively on users. After all, they are the ones who elevated all these people to stardom. We'll see what YouTube gives us in 2016...
