Released in 1994 for Amiga and later adapted for MS-DOS and Windows 95, Sensible World of Soccer is a game that combines a 2D football match with a comprehensive management mode. Although the gameplay is simple, with just eight directions and a button to kick the ball, there is a wide variety of context-sensitive actions that can be performed. Today this title is considered the best Amiga game, and also one of the ten most important video games of all time. Such is this merit that a group of fans designed YSoccer, a free remake of Sensible World of Soccer with new features and improvements.
Started in June 2002, and formerly known as Yoda Soccer, YSoccer is a project that intends to create a new desktop game with the gameplay and style of the classic Sensible World of Soccer. This remake is written in Blitzmax, an open source code available for all who want to help improve the game. Obviously, with a visual style from the 90s, the graphics are not a standout feature, but YSoccer adapts with detailed player models, including kits with shadows, more skin colors, hair, and shirts.
The game is really well equipped, keeping the style of using a single button to kick or pass the ball, and adding custom competitions, a training mode, weather effects, multiple screen resolutions with zoom and rotation, a team and player editor, among many more features that highlight the effort put into designing this wonderful remake of Sensible World of Soccer.
