Do you remember the ZX Spectrum Vega? The console successfully completed its campaign (after some delays), but its potential was limited by the need for an external screen. The next evolutionary step for the Vega was to incorporate an LCD screen into its design, and that’s how we arrive at the ZX Spectrum Vega+. With nearly half a million pounds on the table, this new edition seems to have everything ready, and it will debut on the market on October 20.
The ZX Spectrum computer is responsible for many memories, most of them very pleasant. For a significant number of users, it was the “first computer in the house”, and from then on, their lives changed completely. Obviously, the ZX Spectrum had its share of sharp edges, including the rubber keyboard and interference problems, but what we learned with that computer no one can take away from us. In recent years we have seen several attempts to bring back the ZX Spectrum, and the most successful was the ZX Spectrum Vega console. With all units delivered (or at least, that’s the information circulating), those responsible for the original project decided to take the next step and turn the Vega into a truly portable console.
That’s how we come across the new ZX Spectrum Vega+. After having raised more than 440,000 pounds last March, the Vega+ has everything ready to face the demands of its users on October 20. The console includes a total of 1,000 fully licensed games, but it also extends its compatibility to the rest of the catalogue. The integrated LCD screen is just one way to play, and anyone who wants to connect it to a larger panel like the previous design will be able to do so without issues. Its microSD slot enables expansion of internal storage and manual firmware updates, in addition to the possibility of saving and resuming games, and playing pokes. Those looking for a BASIC interpreter need not worry, as it will be there.
Although the campaign ended in March, the “InDemand” option on Indiegogo should give access to anyone who wants to buy a ZX Spectrum Vega+ now. Most likely, such a purchase will not be part of the first production run, but the important thing here is access to the differential price of 100 pounds sterling (does not include shipping costs).
