The last thing one would imagine at this point is that 5G causes problems for other professionals... however, there is great concern among meteorologists.

The dispute is over interference at the 24 GHz level

At the last World Radiocommunication Conference held in Egypt, delegates voted in favor of creating a new international standard that is more 'relaxed' regarding interference limits from 5G. One of the biggest conflicts lies in the 24 GHz band. Telecommunications companies insist they need to use those frequencies, but meteorologists use them to study water vapor. If 5G proves to be as 'noisy' as they believe, they will not be able to separate its effects from natural signals.

In fact, some local authorities have decided to contact their representatives directly to study the situation more closely. In early December, two senior members of the United States House Committee on Science, Space, and Technology sent a letter to the U.S. Comptroller General Gene Dodaro, expressing their 'deep concern' about the 'potential for degradation' that the country could suffer due to interference in the electromagnetic spectrum.

Personally, I believe that all parties involved will eventually negotiate new interference limits, thus ensuring some coexistence between the new 5G platforms and modern meteorological services. However, that doesn't mean the process will be easy. There is a lot of money at stake on both sides of the fence.
