A Google One subscriber email reproduced by Andrew Romero at 9to5Google schedules the loss of selectable Gemini Pro models for the account described on November 13, 2026. The change would affect model selection in both the Gemini app and Google Search AI Mode. Flash-Lite and Flash would remain selectable, and earlier Pro chats could continue with a different model.
What the notice changes
For the account named in the email, Pro model selection in the Gemini app and Google Search AI Mode would be limited to Google AI Pro subscribers and higher starting November 13. The notice lists Flash-Lite and Flash as the remaining selectable models for Google AI Plus subscribers. It also says chats that previously used Pro can continue with a different model.
That is a change to which model a subscriber can select. It is distinct from automatic routing, where a system chooses a model for a prompt.
The Free-tier rollout is a separate change
Joshua Hawkins reported at BGR that changes for Gemini Free users began rolling out October 9, 2026. In that tier, Auto routes most prompts to Flash-Lite but can choose another model when it determines one is needed; free users do not manually control that choice.
The Free-tier rollout concerns automatic model routing. The Plus notice concerns the models the subscriber can select. NeoTeo previously covered the reported Free-tier rollout; the later subscriber email adds the November date and details about Google Search AI Mode and existing Pro chats.
