YouTube is full of technological experiments that could cost their creators their lives, and we have explored some in the past, including those of these war-crazy Ukrainians under the Kreosan channel, who have a particular addiction to discarded microwave ovens and their magnetrons. This time they set aside their classic design of a "magnetron on a stick" and went straight to a microwave rifle with three magnetrons. However, several comments have already emerged questioning the legitimacy of the design…
What would you do with a broken microwave? Probably try to recover its main capacitor, which has very interesting applications, and the same applies to the rest of its electronics, but under no circumstances would I touch the magnetron. Even though I know the theory behind how it works, I prefer to stay on that line that separates respect from fear. Needless to say, that doesn't stop other "enthusiasts" from carrying out all kinds of crazy experiments with magnetrons, and one of the most popular on YouTube is the Kreosan channel. Let's say that now they weren't satisfied with just one magnetron, but decided to align three around a can, connected to a horn-shaped antenna. The "microwave rifle" looks like it came from Duck Dodgers in the 24th and a Half Century, but it seems to work... or maybe not?
A low-consumption lamp at a long distance, a spy microphone out of commission, a scooter with a spontaneous short circuit, and an audio system that blew up were the victims of this improvised rifle. The video doesn't give too many details about its construction, beyond a combination of high-voltage pulses from a reinforced taser with a power supply and auxiliary capacitors, although in the video they look like 18650 batteries. The camera seems to feel the effects of the rifle every time it is fired, but we must also recognize that such "artifacts" in the video can be added with any editing software. Finally, I think the audio equipment was a bit more "explosive" than necessary.
The main doubts about the rifle all point in the same direction: the taser and the 18650 batteries cannot generate enough energy to power three magnetrons or cause such damage, even if they are very short pulses. Then there are those who defend the design and indicate that under certain parameters it "could" work. I think the simple fact of seeing two half-crazy Ukrainians on a scooter wrapped in aluminum foil is enough to justify the video. (?)
