In June 2016, Unity released a short called ADAM on YouTube. It served as a real-time demo for the beta of Unity 5.4, and the company even shared all the resources with the public. ADAM won a Webby and has accumulated over three million views. After so long without news, we thought the second episode would never arrive. That has just changed thanks to Neill Blomkamp and Oats Studios, who presented ADAM: The Mirror.
The first short from Oats Studios, Rakka, took the Web by storm in mid-June. Two weeks later, Firebase appeared, swapping alien reptiles for a strange god in the jungles of Vietnam. Finally, in July we came across Zygote, which featured Dakota Fanning in the lead role. Those who closely follow Oats Studios' YouTube channel may have already seen the series Cooking with Bill, God: Serengeti with Sharlto Copley, and Kapture: Fluke, which reminds us a bit of the video game Portal, with more blood and no psychopathic artificial intelligences. Any possibility of a continuation will depend on the financial support that the entire "Volume 1" of content receives, but if you want to know the latest from the studio, you need to see this first:
ADAM is a short originally created by Unity, using the beta 5.4 of their software. It's almost six minutes of excellent animation, showing an android in the midst of a crisis. His gestures and reactions suggest that he didn't reach that state of his own free will, but everything becomes even more confusing when he is freed (along with other androids) from what seems to be a maximum-security prison. 16 months have passed since ADAM debuted on YouTube, and many thought there would be no sequel despite the "Chapter 1" in the title. Luckily, Oats Studios picked up the torch, and today we can enjoy its continuation, ADAM: The Mirror.
Suffice it to say that the androids' journey hasn't been easy, and that they all have a past, although they can't remember it. This second part explores that point. Why were they turned into androids? Why were they freed? I imagine that the development of ADAM has a lower cost compared to the rest of the projects published so far by Oats Studios, and that should allow the creation of additional episodes without major difficulties. At least one is already confirmed, and it will be called ADAM: The Prophet.
