Self-portraits. Selfies. For some they are an addiction, and for others they have become a matter of life or death. Beyond what we think about them, the truth is that there are several projects that seek to optimize or improve the capture process in some way, and that leads us to AirSelfie. In essence, it is a mini drone with an integrated five-megapixel camera, WiFi connectivity and 4 GB of storage that uses the smartphone as a control system through a dedicated app.
In a hyperconnected world, there are millions of users who try to show or share their apparent happiness on social networks with a pure selfie. I am not a person who knows much about happiness, but what I can say is that self-portraits have not gone out of style at all. Without going too far, Instagram exceeds 500 million users, of which 300 million are frequent, and the service receives almost one hundred million photographs (and videos) per day. I admit that not everyone follows the selfie route, but what I want to highlight with this is that its enthusiasts represent a fairly large market. A market that many independent projects seek to occupy, as is the case of AirSelfie.
A mini drone with a camera
The concept is simple, and not very original to say the least, however everything that matters is its execution, and AirSelfie seems to have done the job. The drone is as big as a smartphone. In fact, its shell is compatible with the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge, the iPhone 6 and the iPhone 7 (standard and Plus versions), so that the user can carry and protect both accessories at the same time. The AirSelfie camera has a resolution of five megapixels (more than enough if we think about the compression that social networks apply), its internal memory is 4 GB, and photos can be transferred to the smartphone via WiFi with the help of its proprietary app (which also serves to fly the drone).
AirSelfie has already received the funds that will allow it to move to its production phase, and it still has a month ahead. Its managers offer several purchase options, among which one stands out that adds a powerbank to the drone, but whoever looks for the most economical option will have to pay 179 euros. The first deliveries, in March.
