Reuters reported that about 80% of a $518 billion infrastructure total tied to Anthropic was non-cancelable or payable regardless of use. A separate agreement for Nvidia-based capacity associated with xAI was described as largely cancellable with 90 days’ notice. The reported compute commitments do not all carry the same terms.

The reported totals describe different amounts

Benzinga reported more than $600 billion in long-term computing commitments, attributing the figures to a draft prospectus that The Wall Street Journal said it had reviewed. Reuters separately reported a $518 billion infrastructure total. Those are distinct reported figures, not amounts to add together.

The approximately $750 billion figure is conditional: it depends on up to $150 billion in additional agreements that were described as under discussion. It is a potential total, not a report of money already spent. Separately, Anthropic’s reported computing and infrastructure spending was nearly $9 billion in the six months ended June 30, 2026, compared with $2.3 billion in the first half of 2025.

Payment periods and reported contract terms

The reported cloud agreements vary in duration and cancellation terms. Reuters gave these payment periods and conditions:

Counterparty or agreementReported periodReported condition
Google CloudApril 2026 to July 2033Anthropic reportedly must pay any shortfall if its spending falls below the commitment.
Amazon Web ServicesMay 2026 to April 2036Similar usage-independent payment terms were reported.
Microsoft Corp.November 2026 to May 2033Non-cancelable except for an uncured material breach.
Nvidia-based capacity associated with xAIThrough 2029Largely cancellable with 90 days’ notice.

The Microsoft payment period was scheduled to begin in November 2026. The other cloud payment periods began earlier in 2026. Reuters’ estimate that about 80% of its $518 billion total was non-cancelable or payable regardless of usage describes that total, not every agreement in the table.

The separate Nvidia-based capacity agreement was reported at up to $84.5 billion. Nvidia’s role as a capacity provider is distinct from its reported possible investment in Anthropic’s IPO, which NeoTeo covered separately.

Why the terms matter for capacity

A usage-independent payment can remain due even when Anthropic does not use all the capacity covered by an agreement. A cancellation option with 90 days’ notice gives the separate xAI-related Nvidia-capacity agreement a different reported level of flexibility. The headline totals therefore span obligations with different terms, rather than one uniform kind of commitment.

Benzinga also reported that Anthropic had sought more computing capacity than some major cloud partners were willing to provide. The reported supply shortfall sits alongside cloud commitments that may require payment regardless of use.
