Anthropic spent nearly $9 billion on computing capacity and infrastructure in the first half of 2026, compared with $2.3 billion in the same period of 2025, Reuters reported. The Wall Street Journal said a draft IPO prospectus it reviewed listed an $80.7 billion net loss for H1 2026.

Anthropic’s reported infrastructure spending

The spending figures cover computing capacity and infrastructure, one category of company costs. They are distinct from the net-loss figures reported for the same half-year periods.

What the reported net loss includes

Reuters reported that a $72 billion accounting charge made up most of the H1 2026 net loss. The charge was associated with changes in the estimated value of convertible notes and other financial instruments. Reuters described it as an accounting charge rather than cash costs tied to operations, so the reported net loss is not a measure of infrastructure spending alone.

Reported infrastructure commitments use different scopes

Handelsblatt reported about $450 billion in signed capacity contracts for the next seven to ten years, most reportedly non-cancellable. Reuters separately reported at least $518 billion in commitments over a decade for cloud services, computing and infrastructure. The Wall Street Journal also reported potential capacity spending of about $750 billion, including deals still under negotiation.

The separate full-year 2025 figures

Reuters reported a $42 billion net loss for full-year 2025. Excluding a similar accounting charge, the reported operating loss was about $8.1 billion on $4.6 billion in revenue.
