The phrase “the other side of the world” is colorful, but it carries more weight than we imagine. Time zones, climate, culture, language, laws, air, water, food… the changes can be drastic when you move from one region to its exact opposite. With that in mind, would you like to know what lies on the other side relative to where you live? Unfortunately, we can't use a regular map because we already know they're all wrong, but a small portal called Antipodr gives us an exact result.
The web has taught us to calculate where our countries were on the ancient supercontinent of Pangea. It has also given us an idea of what the continents will look like 250 million years from now. The world doesn't stand still, and no matter how imperceptible, changes are happening. It's likely that the current configuration of Earth will never repeat, so it's not a bad idea to learn as much as we can about it. Some have the privilege of knowing it in person, traveling from one region to the next. Escaping to “the other side of the world” and abandoning local chaos is tempting, but do you actually know what exactly is on the other side?
The answer is simply to calculate the antipode of your city. For example, the antipode of Madrid lands us in the middle of New Zealand. Our friends reading from Lima are located near the border separating Cambodia from Thailand, and Mexico City is in the middle of the Indian Ocean, halfway between Madagascar and Australia. Anyone with a world map can do this calculation, but the simplest way is to visit the Antipodr portal created by Jake Rutter and Jason Palmer.
