Apple announced HomePod mini 2 on October 13, 2026, and opened U.S. preorders that day. Apple scheduled store availability to begin October 30 at $149, according to its U.S. announcement of HomePod mini 2.
Siri AI is planned for a later update
Siri AI will arrive in a future free software update, Apple says, but the company did not give an update date. The U.S. is among the initial English-language markets Apple named for the feature. Some personal-context functions require a paired iPhone or iPad with Apple Intelligence.
Audio, lighting and smart-home features
Apple says the speaker’s S10 chip powers computational audio that analyzes music in real time and adjusts dynamic range, loudness and acoustic performance. The announced features also include 360-degree sound, single-speaker playback, stereo pairs and multiroom audio. Five colors are available: pink, green, blue, white and midnight.
Sound Glow animates the speaker’s top surface in response to music: it can react to bass and treble, match album-art colors and animate with selected soundscapes such as rain. Voice control of Sound Glow requires an Apple Intelligence-enabled iPhone running the latest software. Apple’s Sound Glow clip features the pulsing light effect.
Apple also says HomePod mini 2 can control compatible smart-home accessories through voice commands, automations, scenes and remote access in the Home app; accessories are sold separately. Sound Recognition may send a notification to an iPhone, iPad or Apple Watch after detecting a smoke or carbon-monoxide alarm. Apple warns that it should not be relied on in emergencies or high-risk situations.
Requirements for surround sound and Mac audio
Apple’s four-speaker home-theater setup requires an Apple TV 4K (4th generation) running the latest operating system, plus either four HomePod mini 2 speakers or four HomePod (2nd generation) speakers. The speakers must be arranged as matching-model front and rear pairs. Apple says the system automatically calibrates timing and levels based on speaker positions and the room. Apple’s setup requirements spell out those conditions.
For Mac audio output, Apple specifies a Mac with Wi-Fi 6E or later and supports either one HomePod or a stereo pair.
