A Business Insider reviewer reported repeated restarts on a tested Apple Watch Series 12, and Apple says watchOS 27.0.1 fixes an issue that can cause an Apple Watch to restart unexpectedly. The review was published on October 14, 2026; Apple published its update notes on September 23, 2026.

What the Series 12 report says

The Business Insider reviewer said their Series 12 restarted repeatedly during the first few days of testing and recommended installing watchOS 27.0.1. That is one review unit’s experience, not a measure of how often Series 12 watches restart.

One Reddit commenter also reported that their Series 12 continued crashing after installing watchOS 27.0.1. These are individual reports, not a population-wide count of reboots. What Apple says watchOS 27.0.1 fixes

Apple’s watchOS 27.0.1 release notes say the update fixes an issue in which an Apple Watch may restart unexpectedly. Apple describes the device generically as Apple Watch; the note does not name Series 12.

How to force-restart an Apple Watch

If a normal restart does not work or the problem persists, Apple says to hold the side button and Digital Crown together for at least 10 seconds, until the Apple logo appears. Apple’s restart instructions also say an Apple Watch cannot be restarted while it is charging.
