A star taking a stand
Climate change is one of the most important battles the modern world must face (whether it wants to or not), and among its leading voices stands Leonardo DiCaprio, the latest winner of the Oscar for Best Actor. The actor has joined forces with the National Geographic to become producer and narrator of Before the Flood, a new documentary that, in addition to premiering on the big screen, was also published on YouTube for free, for a limited time.
What else is there to say about climate change? How hard is it to understand that we don't have a spare Earth? How can the influence of the human species on the environment be explained with such force? It seems incredible that, even with things like Hurricane Matthew (49 dead and $7.5 billion in damages, only in the United States) there are “deniers” saying global warming and climate change in general are an invention. Fortunately, those elements only make more noise because their numbers fall before the evidence, but the responsibility to communicate and share information never ends. The fight against climate change brings together people of all kinds, even those who could (if they so wanted) ignore the issue entirely. Well... Leonardo DiCaprio is not ignoring the issue. He devoted a good part of his speech when accepting the Oscar as Best Actor, naming the problems that The Revenant had due to the climate (the last part of the filming was done in southern Argentina “because there was snow there”), and now we have this:

The documentary is called Before the Flood, its distribution is in charge of the National Geographic, and as you can see from its duration, it is not a trailer, but the complete version. DiCaprio is one of the six producers the film has, as well as being its narrator, but he does much more than talk. DiCaprio travels the world interviewing some of the most important people who, like him, are part of the fight against climate change, and the list includes Elon Musk, the president of the United States Barack Obama, and Pope Francis.
Before the Flood premiered in theaters on October 21, but the National Geographic decided to share the complete edition on YouTube, free of charge, until next November 6. As expected, the documentary exploded on the Web, and it already accumulates more than three million views in less than 48 hours, something notable if we consider that it is 95 minutes of video, without subtitles available. The material is of very good quality, and definitely recommended.
