Borderless Gaming supports a separately installed DLSS5-NR effect from GitHub, running it through the app’s BGFX graphics pipeline. It is a third-party rendering effect, not native NVIDIA DLSS 5 support built into a game or a shader bundled with the app update.
NeoTeo has also covered unofficial DLSS 5 experiments on older RTX GPUs; this article looks at a separate route for running DLSS5-NR through Borderless Gaming.
What the Borderless Gaming effect does
BGFX is Borderless Gaming’s graphics-effects pipeline. The developer says DLSS5-NR runs through BGFX rather than forwarding requests to NVIDIA’s DLLs. The effect does not require replacing game DLLs, modifying game files or installing a game-specific mod.
DLSS5-NR has controls for strength, lighting, tone, structure, style and processing resolution. Users install the shader separately from the app update.
How to install DLSS5-NR
The repository’s instructions describe this process:
- Install Borderless Gaming, then open its effects editor or Holo presets screen.
- Choose “Install from GitHub.”
- Enter the repository path andrewmd5/bgfx-dlss5-nr and select the DLSS5-NR preset.
- Enable the effect. On Windows, select “Scaling (GPU).”
What the RTX 3090 estimate means
The developer says an RTX 3090 can target around 30 FPS, depending on the game and settings. That is a conditional estimate, not a standardized benchmark or a promised frame rate across games.
Frame generation is separate from DLSS5-NR. The approximate 30 FPS figure describes a target while running the effect; it is not a stated increase over a game’s baseline frame rate.
