Capcom announced on October 15 that the free Monster Hunter Wilds Prologue Demo for Nintendo Switch 2 is scheduled for October 19, 2026, Pacific Time (PT). It runs from character creation through Chapter 1-3, “Toward the Forest,” supports local play but no online features, and lets players carry demo progress into the full game if they meet Capcom’s save-transfer requirements. What the demo includes

The playable opening begins with character creation and ends at Chapter 1-3, “Toward the Forest.” During a hunt, an SOS flare calls NPC Support Hunters to help. Capcom’s demo instructions

Local play, not online multiplayer

Capcom says local play is supported, but the Prologue Demo is offline-only, so it has no online multiplayer. An SOS flare brings in NPC Support Hunters rather than online players. Capcom’s announcement Capcom’s demo instructions

Capcom describes crossplay with players on other platforms as a feature of the full Nintendo Switch 2 game. That applies to the full game, not the offline demo. Capcom’s Nintendo Switch 2 page

How to carry demo progress into the full game

Capcom’s transfer instructions require the full game to be updated and launched with the same user account used for the demo. The full game must not already have save data; if it does, the demo save cannot be transferred. Players can start the transfer without completing the demo, and their demo settings and options transfer too. Capcom’s demo instructions

As of October 16, Capcom lists the Prologue Demo as available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and Steam; the Nintendo Switch 2 version is scheduled for October 19 PT. Capcom’s demo page
