In the U.S., ChatGPT Plus costs $20 a month, Google AI Pro costs $19.99 a month, and Claude Pro costs $20 a month or $200 prepaid for a year. OpenAI says Plus is billed monthly, while Google and Anthropic list their U.S. plan terms. Anthropic’s prices exclude applicable taxes.
| Provider and plan | U.S. price | Billing and included terms |
| ChatGPT Plus | $20/month | Monthly billing; API usage is billed separately. |
| Google AI Pro | $19.99/month | Includes 5 TB of storage and YouTube Premium Lite. |
| Claude Pro | $20/month or $200/year | The annual price is paid up front; applicable taxes are excluded. |
Claude’s annual plan lowers the total paid
Twelve $20 monthly payments for Claude Pro add up to $240. Its $200 annual prepayment is $40 less, a 16.7% reduction from that monthly total before applicable tax. The trade-off is paying for the year up front rather than month to month.
OpenAI offers no annual billing for ChatGPT Plus, and API use is separate from the subscription. Google AI Pro’s $19.99 price is monthly; its U.S. plan also bundles 5 TB of storage and YouTube Premium Lite. Those extras matter most if you would use them anyway.
Usage limits depend on the work
A subscription price does not translate into one shared message count across these services. Anthropic says Claude usage varies with the model, message and file size, and conversation length. Claude Code and Claude chat draw from the same plan usage pool. Anthropic’s plan guidance describes those limits.
Google describes AI Pro’s Gemini usage limit as four times the Free tier’s, rather than as a fixed number of messages. OpenAI says Plus limits can vary with system conditions. The practical comparison is how each plan handles the work you actually do, especially if it involves long conversations, files, or coding.
Google also offers AI Plus for $4.99 a month in the U.S. It includes 400 GB of storage and twice the Free tier’s Gemini usage limit, making it a lower-priced option within Google’s plans. Google’s U.S. plan page lists those terms.
Choose by your workflow
If you mostly use an assistant for questions, compare the tools and bundled services you would use regularly. If you code with Claude, remember that Claude Code shares its usage pool with chat. For heavier use, compare the plans’ stated limits and billing terms rather than assuming their similar monthly prices buy the same allowance.
Daniel Morgan frames subscription choice around whether someone mainly asks questions or builds things. His English-language video compares plans across price tiers; that workflow lens can help clarify what matters in your own use.
