Lifehacker judged Gemini’s Google Slides deck more polished than ChatGPT’s in one presentation task, but reported factual and image errors. OpenAI’s documented ChatGPT Slides workflow offers direct editing, collaboration, and web exports, so the better fit depends on whether you prioritize the look of one generated deck or the tools for revising and delivering it.
What the reported head-to-head test found
For its presentation task about an iPhone Duo, Lifehacker’s author preferred Gemini’s layouts, color choices, and selection of information. The author also reported that Gemini’s deck misstated the subject’s maximum brightness and included an inaccurate generated phone image. Those observations concern that task, not a general performance ranking.
The author said ChatGPT’s Pro/Slides deck was longer and more informative than the ChatGPT Plus deck, but also reported that some creation requests did not complete properly. In the same test, ChatGPT allowed basic resizing and repositioning of individual elements, while edits to Gemini’s deck went through a general prompt box.
| Dimension in Lifehacker’s task | ChatGPT Slides | Gemini in Google Slides |
| Visual result | Less polished overall; the Pro/Slides deck was longer and more informative than the Plus deck | More polished layouts and color choices, with a reported brightness error and inaccurate generated phone image |
| Editing observed | Basic resizing and repositioning of selected elements | Edit requests went through the general prompt box |
What ChatGPT Slides can edit, share, and export
OpenAI says ChatGPT Slides can directly edit text, images, shapes, tables, and charts. You can select an element and request a change, or ask ChatGPT to revise the deck through its prompt bar. The OpenAI Slides help page also describes shared editing: people with edit access can work on the same deck at the same time, use shared comments, and @mention collaborators. Comment-only access was unavailable at launch.
ChatGPT can present a deck within the service. On the web, it can export to PowerPoint (.pptx), PDF, or Google Slides. OpenAI recommends checking the exported content and formatting before using the file. That makes ChatGPT Slides a documented option when your deliverable needs to move into one of those formats or be revised with collaborators.
Access and the Windows workflow
OpenAI lists ChatGPT Slides for Pro, Business, and Enterprise accounts with Space access, and says rollout to eligible accounts may still be underway. Having an eligible plan does not by itself mean the feature has reached every account.
On Windows, local AI slide creation and editing in the desktop app use PowerPoint files instead of collaborative Slides when the required MXC component is missing. Windows 10 does not support that component; Windows 11 may need an update or organizational enablement. OpenAI says cloud mode or ChatGPT on the web can be used for collaborative Slides.
A different prompt produced different results
In a separate test published July 10, 2026, Productivity Coach X gave ChatGPT, Gemini, and Claude the same prompt for a social-media-agency pitch deck. The creator reported that ChatGPT produced a basic downloadable PowerPoint, Gemini’s deck needed to be exported to Google Slides, and Claude generated a designed PowerPoint. Productivity Coach X chose Claude. The test used a different assignment from Lifehacker’s, so its result is another task-specific observation, not a rematch of the iPhone Duo presentation.
The reported US prices are a dated snapshot
In its October 23, 2026 article, Lifehacker reported a US monthly access threshold of at least $100 for ChatGPT Slides and a price of $19.99 per month for Google AI Pro. These are the article’s dated US price observations, not a universal price comparison.
| Plan | Reported US price | Billing period | Price snapshot |
| ChatGPT Slides access threshold | At least $100 | Monthly | Lifehacker, October 23, 2026 |
| Google AI Pro | $19.99 | Monthly | Lifehacker, October 23, 2026 |
Choose ChatGPT Slides when direct element editing, collaboration, or a web export to PowerPoint, PDF, or Google Slides fits the job, provided the feature is available on your account. Gemini had the more polished-looking result in Lifehacker’s one task. For either workflow, the test’s reported errors make a final review of slide facts and images important.
