Some of our readers may already be aware that Microsoft confirmed that with the release of Windows 10 version 1809, the classic Disk Cleanup tool will begin handing over its tasks to Storage Sense. After a four-month delay, my main machine finally received Windows 10 build 1809. The update came out of nowhere (of course), and it was several minutes of tension praying to the deities of the moment that the process wouldn't break anything (Google Backup and Sync stopped working and was reinstalled)... but here it is. Some apps also reappeared (the ones nobody wants), and the Dark Theme has been implemented in the classic interface, with very strange results. Windows 10 1809 is not a good update, however, we have to work with it one way or another. That implies tolerating several changes, including the reduction of Disk Cleanup to a "deprecated" state. Now, Storage Sense is not particularly terrible, but it loses many advanced cleaning options, and is designed for automatic operation. The truth is, we want more control, not less.
How to Clean Windows 10 with Cleanmgr+
Disk Cleanup hasn't gone anywhere, but it's not a bad idea to think about a replacement, and that's where Cleanmgr+ comes in. The program is a creation of the Mirinsoft portal, and is currently at version 0.3.0 beta. The interface is simple and has three main sections. The first is "Clean-Up", which essentially starts the cleaning. Before clicking here, we recommend using "Select" to mark all options, or individually choose the content to clean. "Preview" is nothing more than a cleaning simulator. It presents a general report of the files it can delete, and their location. The items to choose are divided into two categories: "Windows", which expands the values of the original Disk Cleanup, and "+More", with entries for browsers, internal caches, and Windows Update files.
