Bandai Namco is developing a new third-person role-playing game called Code Vein and it puts you in control of a vampire in a post-apocalyptic world where you'll have to fight a series of monsters to survive.
Earlier last month, Bandai Namco surprised players by announcing the game with an animated trailer and promising more details to come. The company has now provided more information about its upcoming title.
Play as a Revenant and unlock Gifts
Code Vein is a third-person RPG that puts you in the shoes of a Revenant (a vampire). These powerful beings can collect blood to improve their abilities, known as Gifts. These upgrades include an increase in strength, the ability to weaken enemies, and the skill to wield powerful weapons with strong attacks.
A world collapsed into tombs
Code Vein's synopsis explains that in the not-too-distant future, a mysterious disaster caused the world as we knew it to collapse completely. The buildings of great cities, once symbols of prosperity, are now enormous tombs representing humanity's past. At the center of this destruction lies a hidden society of Revenants called Vein. This fortress is where the inhabitants fight to survive, blessed with special gifts in exchange for their memories and the need to consume blood. But they also risk succumbing entirely to the blood thirst, which would turn them into ghouls, diabolical beings that have completely lost any trace of humanity.
Gameplay, companions, and release window
Gameplay takes place in the surroundings of Vein, where you'll travel with a companion who can help you fight enemies and bosses. The goal is to recover lost memories and, hopefully, a way to return to your normal human form. Code Vein is being developed by Bandai Namco Studios and will be available on consoles (there's no mention of specific platforms, or even whether it will be available on PC). The game doesn't have a concrete release date yet, but it's expected to arrive sometime in 2018. So far, there's no more information, but Bandai Namco will surely offer more details during its E3 2017 conference, so we'll have to wait to see what it has in store.
