We're going to introduce you to a collaborative drawing tool with chat recording and public and private sessions. The platform is called Drawpile and lets you host sessions on your computer (using LAN) or on Drawpile's server. Its real-time collaboration makes it a unique alternative.
The collaboration system works like Google Sheets, showing each collaborator's name alongside their drawing. In each session you can add as many people as you want and grant them different permissions.
How to Use Drawpile
First, you'll need to download Drawpile. When you run it, you'll find on the right side of the interface all the tools you need to draw (freehand drawing, brush customizations, color palette, input options, etc.) and in the center the work area.
Collaborative Drawing:
To collaborate, first you'll need to organize a session. To do this, go to 'Sessions' and then select 'Host'. At this point a pop-up window will open where you can enter the session information and set whether it will be public or private. In the latter case, it will be protected with a password.
You'll also need to decide whether to use the drawpile.net server (default) or your computer (using LAN) to host the session.
Joining a Session:
To join an active session, go to 'Sessions' and click 'Join'. A pop-up window will open with a list of all available sessions. You can also search for the session and join it.
As users join your drawing, you'll see them in the chat box at the bottom of the interface. As administrator, you can block, mute, or send private messages to the user. When a user is drawing on the canvas, you'll see the artist's name in real time.
Drawpile is a very complete collaborative drawing program that has all the tools for professional drawing. Drawpile is a free program available for Windows operating systems.
