Your ISP's DNS servers are often just the bare minimum needed to browse. A common tip is to swap them for more stable alternatives (OpenDNS, Google, and Cloudflare are the most popular), and today we have ControlD, a new service of secure and fast DNS developed by the Windscribe team. ControlD just announced its open beta, and anyone can start using its DNS immediately.
We've lost connectivity too many times because of our ISP's DNS servers. Replacing them is a good idea not just for stability but also for speed. In the past, we've explained the exact process to find the fastest DNS in each region; however, we're always open to new options.
One of them is ControlD, a service of secure and fast DNS by Windscribe, the same company behind the famous free VPN service.

The available categories are four: Unfiltered, which doesn't touch traffic at any level; Block Malware, focused on blocking malicious content; Block Malware + Ads, which also includes certain ad filters (remember to make an exception for us!); and Block Malware + Ads + Social, which extends its blocking to social networks.
Depending on the device you have, ControlD's DNS can be configured in legacy mode (i.e., with xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx format), DNS over HTTPS, or DNS over TLS. Another possibility is to limit its influence to a specific browser. The configuration section teaches us to include these DNS in Chrome, Edge Chromium, Firefox, and Opera, usually as DNS over HTTPS.
The premium edition of ControlD also deserves a special mention. In addition to allowing the user to enable and disable dynamic filters that block specific sites and services, it offers in the background a virtually transparent system of bypass for geographic restrictions, so any streaming service will work without hiccups.
If you want to try the secure and fast DNS of ControlD, you can do it right now, free of charge. As for the premium service, once the trial ends you have two options: Partial control for $20 per year (or $2 per month), and Total control for $40 per year, or $4 per month.
