Cosplay is an ever-evolving practice. Some characters are very complex in terms of overall design and wardrobe, but there are fans out there who simply refuse to give up. For logical reasons, female cosplay is the most sought-after and admired on the web, although it's worth remembering that in the 1970s, the ladies weren't lagging behind. In fact, the images we're about to share are just a humble selection of a body of work in which enthusiasts show off nearly everything they have at their disposal…

We're not all that surprised today. Many models who dedicate themselves fully to cosplay aim for the sexual component of characters to amplify the reach of their work. However, cosplay in the 1970s demonstrated a certain "freedom of skin" associated with the lack of rules. Conventions were simple, and only after some major incidents (including a man who covered himself in peanut butter as a "costume" that began to rot within hours) did they adopt stricter guidelines.

Below are some images from the era. The original content can be explored here, but I warn you that there are several NSFW elements, which we don't share for practical reasons (read: "a certain bionic eye in Mountain View"). When you're done with that, feel free to continue your exploration of 1970s cosplay by checking out another of our galleries.
