The World Cosplay Summit 2018, an annual cosplay event held in Japan, recently took place. People from all over the world travel to the Land of the Rising Sun to take part, and this time a duo of cosplayers from Mexico won the contest with Street Fighter II.
Street Fighter II Takes the Stage
There's no doubt that Street Fighter II: The World Warrior revolutionized fighting games. With a roster of well-known characters, it's common to see people doing cosplay of them at any pop-culture convention. In fact, at the recent World Cosplay Summit 2018, an annual event dedicated to cosplay held in Nagoya, Japan, two Mexicans won the cosplay contest with Street Fighter II. The duo known as Banana Cospboys stepped onto the stage to reenact a battle from this Capcom classic in a performance that will leave you breathless. Just watch.
A Winning Performance
Luis and Lalo make up Banana Cospboys, and this time they cosplayed as Dhalsim and Chun-Li. The interesting thing about the World Cosplay Summit is that it's not just about showing up in the best cosplay to pose for everyone; what matters here is the show participants put on for the audience, who after all are the real judges. That's how Banana Cospboys recreated an excellent fight between the yoga master and the Chinese martial artist, including each fighter's signature abilities such as Dhalsim breathing fire and stretching his limbs.
But that's not all; besides the fight, they also recreated the bonus stage, where both fighters have to destroy a car with punches and kicks. Luis and Lalo won the crowd's applause and swept the vote with a well-deserved 50.7%, leaving France in second place (far behind) with 13.1%. Without a doubt, this Mexican duo did an excellent job putting on a cosplay show with mastery and performance. We congratulate them from here, Banana Cospboys! WE LOVED THEIR WORK!
