"Peace is a lie, there is only passion. Through passion, I gain strength. Through strength, I gain power. Through power, I gain victory. Through victory, my chains are broken. The Force shall free me." That is the Dark Side code of the Force, and it is represented in Dark Legacy, a Star Wars short about the Sith.
When it comes to Star Wars and learning the Force, we have seen most of it from the Jedi's perspective. We see training like Anakin, Luke, and now Rey—all journeys begin from the light side. Obviously, Anakin becomes one of the greatest villains of all time, and we still haven't seen what will happen with Rey, as she might be heading toward gray Jedi territory. However, we don't have many stories where Sith Lords learn their dark arts from a Sith Master. That's exactly what Dark Legacy, a Star Wars short about the Sith is about.
The Story
The short runs ten minutes (excluding credits) and is based on the idea of Sith tradition that states at the beginning of the video: "Training is only complete with the death of the master or the student." The quote comes from Sorzus Syn, an exiled Jedi who turned to the dark side and is also the original author of the Sith Code. The story of Dark Legacy takes place on a distant, forgotten planet where we see an apprentice named Kia (Erin Wu), imprisoned against her will by a Sith Master (Fabien Garcia) who is looking for a student who can kill him and inherit his legacy, or die trying.
The Master has sought many disciples, whom he then kept captive and forced to challenge him to learn the ways of the dark side. Kia is the last of his prisoners and a possible reluctant Sith Lord. By the end, there is a strange event, but it's better to see it for yourself. Produced by Manifest Film and directed by Anthony Pietromonaco, Dark Legacy features visual effects by Jaremy Aiello and Mo Meinhart.
