Regardless of how you feel about virtual reality, one of its biggest chances for success lies in recreating experiences based on classic franchises. We all expect good games from Star Wars, Star Trek, and at least half a dozen anime series. The Japanese company MegaHouse seems to have picked up the gauntlet first, releasing a virtual Dragon Ball Z package consisting of a headset, sensors, and an app where we can fight alongside Goku, fly, or throw powers in augmented reality.
Dragon Ball Super continues its run and has already accumulated 85 episodes, honestly not stopping to add universes. It will be very interesting to see how Toriyama manages to contract the story to the parameters of the original ending in the manga, but if we've learned anything from the Dragon Ball saga, it's that loose ends don't affect it much. There's also plenty of activity on the games front... but virtual reality is missing. To be honest, virtual reality always seems missing. Where are the games? Star Wars, Star Trek, Pokémon, Cardcaptor Sakura, Dragon Ball Z... no, wait. Let's cross out Dragon Ball Z, because the Japanese company MegaHouse has this for us:
All About the Dragon Ball Z VR Pack
The official name of the package is "BotsNew Characters VR Dragonball Z". It consists of a headset with Capsule Corp. details and a total of three sensors. The virtual headset is similar to the Gear VR, so we'll need a smartphone capable of running the official app where all the action takes place. The trailer suggests players can fight alongside Goku and face classic enemies, throw the occasional Kamehameha against furniture in augmented reality, and explore the particular universe of Dragon Ball.
The total price for the headset and sensors is 12,000 yen, which is about $110 if our conversion is correct. Unfortunately we don't have data on compatible smartphones, but judging by the huge amount of cel shading in the app, it should be a more or less robust model.
