The Eternal Hair Dilemma
One of the biggest questions every woman (and why not, every man) faces when it comes to their hair is how a cut or a new color will really look. Leaving aside the details about dyes and styles, the magic of Photoshop works for anyone with enough skill, but very soon we will have access to Dreambit, an unusual search engine that will combine personal photos with hair styles, dresses, regional fashions or period-specific looks, and let you see the possible results.
How many times have we heard the same story? A person goes to the hairdresser or a beauty salon, and within 24 hours (or less) they completely regret what they did to their head. The obvious problem is that a haircut or a color change is not something you can "return to the store" like a defective gadget. That person enters a complicated path of correction until they reach a compromise, but many believe this could be avoided with a little additional information. In essence, taking a personal photo and combining colors or styles on top of it.
How Dreambit Works
That's where the Dreambit search engine comes in. Its official page describes it as "a personalized search engine", which, once loaded with a couple of personal photos (it can be just one, but the idea is to give more flexibility to the process), you request a hair style, a modern or old fashion, regional types of clothing, or a combination of all these factors, and it delivers different versions of "us". Blond or dark hair, braids, curls, oriental styles, '60s cuts, Victorian fashion, the list goes on. Dreambit's representations are relatively crude compared to basic Photoshop work, but they should be enough to give you a more solid idea of how you would look before stepping into the salon.
Closed Beta and Final Thoughts
Dreambit is in a closed beta phase, and the only way to participate (for now) is to register with an email address to receive the invitation. While it's not a feature I would have imagined in a search engine, I admit the idea isn't bad, and if it gains traction, it will most likely catch the attention of some giant and place several millions on the table...
