The web is full of portals and services that help us solve math problems at different levels, but Microsoft has decided to explore a very interesting idea: integrating that function into its Edge browser. If you're willing to download the latest Canary build of Edge Chromium, you'll be able to access Edge Math Solver, a new tool that will explain how to solve math problems with ease.
Whenever we look for a platform or service to solve math exercises, one of the first recommendations search engines make is WolframAlpha. It works very well for getting results and its overall performance is impeccable, but the 'problem' (if we can call it that) is that its step-by-step solution system is behind a paywall. That problem disappears with an annual payment of $57, suggesting a much more intensive use than normal.
In other words, what we need is to know how to solve math problems without affecting our budget, and that's where Microsoft intervenes, a player not entirely unexpected in this market. If we think back a bit, the Redmond giant offers Math Solver, which works directly in the browser, or in mobile mode with apps for iOS and Android. However, Microsoft is evaluating another possibility: incorporating Math Solver into its Edge browser.
How to Solve Problems with Edge Math Solver
Accessing Edge Math Solver has an essential technical requirement, and that is downloading the Canary edition of Edge Chromium. As a feature under evaluation, it will take some time before we see it in the stable build of the browser. The good news is that Edge stable and Edge Canary remain parallel installations, so we don't overwrite anything when testing it.
The second step is to enter the advanced settings of Edge Chromium Canary with the command edge://flags, search for 'edge-math-solver', change its value to 'Enabled' and restart the browser. Finally, to open Math Solver we go to the settings menu, then to 'More Tools', where we'll see the legend 'Math Solver'.
Edge Math Solver enables two options: Select the math problem to solve with the mouse (by 'painting' a box around the exercise), or enter it manually. The selection mode works with text and images equally, and when we click on 'solution steps', we'll receive the exact instructions, accompanied by secondary data, graphs (if relevant), and some recommended videos.
Even if you're not interested in installing the Canary version of a browser, I think it's worth keeping an eye on Edge Math Solver, and it could become an excellent resource for future editions of Edge Chromium.
