One of the best features of the most popular BitTorrent clients is remote administration via WebUI. With a few settings, a username and a password, you can control the main aspects of the client directly from the browser, but you lose some support along the way. Adding .torrent files and Magnet links becomes tedious, but Electorrent aims to fill that gap by adopting the role of remote control for your favorite client.
The WebUI Gap
If you're planning to build a BitTorrent box, the first step is to make sure your client's WebUI support is robust. After all, the last thing you want to do is connect a monitor and keyboard every time a failure appears. Another detail to consider is that WebUI doesn't deliver a complete reproduction of functions. When working in the browser, one of the most relevant losses is the dynamic detection of Magnet links and .torrent files. The solution comes down to copy and paste each one, but when you get to the twentieth link, frustration likely takes over. That said, what alternatives do we have?
Electorrent as a Remote Control
One very interesting option is Electorrent. Its development is open source and cross-platform, so you'll find builds compatible with Windows 64-bit, Mac OS, and Linux. The downloading and installing process doesn't make Windows Defender's SmartScreen filter very happy, but that's because the developer doesn't have any certificate. In other words, there's a chance that some antivirus might throw a false positive. Electorrent works with uTorrent, qBitTorrent, Transmission, and rTorrent. Activate WebUI in your client, and use the same credentials to log in through the program, not forgetting IP address, protocol, and port.
Despite its large size (the Windows installer takes up 54.4 MB), Electorrent worked well during our tests. However, the latest version 3.3.13 of qBitTorrent rejected connection attempts. Apparently it's a bug in qBitTorrent which breaks all alternative WebUI interfaces. If you're interested in Electorrent but don't want to downgrade qBitTorrent, it'll be a matter of waiting for its next update.
