One of the problems that most afflicts smartphone users is battery life. Reaching the end of the day is quite a feat, and that’s why Avenir Telecom, under the Energizer license, created a device that will satisfy more than one and will feature the largest battery ever manufactured. At NeoTeo, we discuss the advantages and disadvantages of a phone that, without a doubt, will go down in history.
A battery that keeps going
At MWC 2019 (Mobile World Congress), Avenir Telecom and Energizer unveiled their latest release: a phone with an 18,000 mAh battery! According to the French company itself, this phone lasted two days playing videos non-stop and will guarantee a little over a week of moderate use.
The Energizer Power Max P18K Pop will be 18mm thick, roughly three current smartphones. Yes, it’s enormous, and we could say it’s a battery with a phone attached, but it could still be a solution for many people who are attached to their phone’s daily life.
Specifications and features
This smartphone will feature a 6.2-inch IPS screen, a MediaTek Helio P70 processor (8 x Cortex A73) with a Mali G72 GPU, 6 GB of RAM, 128 GB of storage, and Android 9 Pie customized by Energizer. It will also have USB-C, Bluetooth 5.0, and Wi-Fi AC. Of course, it will include fast charging, since using a regular charger with such a monstrous phone would become very tedious. To complete a full charge, you’ll need only eight hours, considering all the mAh at your disposal.
Five cameras
One of the main attractions of the P18K Pop is its array of cameras. It has five cameras! Yes, it sounds insane. It has a 12-megapixel main camera, a secondary 5-megapixel, and a third 2-megapixel for portrait mode. On the front, there’s a dual camera with a pop-up mechanism, so if you want to take a selfie, you have to pull it out of its hiding place. The casing is made of glass, giving it a premium feel.
Energizer’s lineup
In recent years, Energizer has developed several specialized lines for audiences seeking durability and resistance: PowerMax, Energy, and Hardcase. PowerMax is dedicated mainly to battery life, Energy is aimed at those seeking something more basic, compact, and resistant, and finally the Hardcase line, with a more minimalist spirit, small and highly resistant to bumps and impacts.
History and availability
It’s worth mentioning that at the beginning of last year, Energizer and Avenir canceled a first version of this phone. The P16K had quite similar specifications and, as its name suggests, had a 16,000 mAh battery. The phone never went on sale but was presented at several expositions.
The Energizer Power Max P18K Pop will be launched in June of this year and will cost around 599 dollars. Although it carries an impressive thickness, it can undoubtedly be the solution for many.
