GitHub is a service with many advantages, but it lacks a native option to check the size of its repositories and files. Unless you use Enhanced Github, a very good Google Chrome extension to visualize the size of a GitHub repository, the size of individual files, or copy the content of a file to the clipboard. In addition to viewing the weight of all files separately, you will get a download link for each of them.
How to Improve Your GitHub Experience with the Enhanced Github Extension?
After installing the add-on in the browser, you will see the icon next to the Chrome Omnibox (you won't have to use the icon to access the service).
Now you will need to open a GitHub repository in the Google Chrome browser and you will see all the files and folders of the repository listed. But with the extension installed, you will find extra features provided by the add-on:
GitHub Repository Size: Next to the option "contributors", you will see the size of the repository (on the right).
Size of Each File: Natively you would have to enter each file to see its size, but with the extension, the size of each file is visible on the main page (next to the file name). What the add-on does not show is the size of the folders.
Download a File: Next to the file size, you will find a download icon for each file. To download it, you will need to open the link in another tab (Ctrl + left mouse button).
Copy a File: Without a doubt, one of the best features of Enhanced Github. On each file you will see the "Copy File" button on the right side of the page. Pressing it will copy all the contents of the GitHub file to the clipboard.
